In these Ikebana arrangements I’ve been inspired by some of the artworks in my home and have incorporated them into a freestyle Sogetsu workspace. As suggested in Book 5 Lesson 20, the goal has been to create an artistic work where the arrangement complements the artwork.

With so many flowers blooming this spring, it kept me so busy, that I felt the need to publish my arrangements in two parts! This has been the best season I’ve ever had with my camellias.

The arrangements in this video are the result of the winter pruning. Even though we are suffering from the lack of rain this year, by keeping up the watering, there are still some very resilient plants that are flowering.

Again, we had an exceptionally hot summer that carried over into autumn. For some reason, the colours this autumn were exceptionally brilliant before the arrival of winter, perhaps due to the scarcity of rain. My maple wood needed pruning after 30 years and as a result I can use it for my Ikebana.

This spring and summer, the peonies and roses have done exceptionally well, thanks to my husband who’s been keeping an eye on the watering. Our electronic watering system broke down after thirty years of use and no one wanted to repair it over the Xmas and New Year season. #Sogetsu #Ikebana

Green is a pervasive colour in nature and there are more shades of green than one can imagine. I tried to match as close to the colour green in the flowers I used, however, it was difficult to find very green flowers. Monstera deliciosa cannot be grown outdoors in Canberra, unless protected from frost. By chance I obtained a few large leaves when someone was cleaning up their well-covered courtyard. This past summer was exceptionally hot and dry, but I was still able to have enough in my garden to enjoy doing the summer arrangements.

We had no rain all summer, and then in one day we had a whole summer’s rain! It flooded some parts of Canberra. Due to the lack of rain, I’ve seen some kangaroos and their joeys visiting people’s gardens to look for grass. I feel very sorry for them. But in Australia, drought is not uncommon. *Hello. I had a question. Is it possible to make ikebana using ebony bonsai and mimosa pudica?*
You could definitely use the mimosa pudica in ikebana, however, usually we don't use bonsai for ikebana. We use parts of the green plant material for arrangements, but we do not use the whole living tree.

Hello, I have a question about the green bird's nest fern you use. Usually when I use them they become soft very quickly. Do you use any special treatment to keep them hard?
